About us
Mission
Our mission is to push the limits of electric racing and inspire young minds to take on challenges in engineering and business. As a multidisciplinary team, we build on the foundation of our previous successes to once more establish ourselves as a world reference in formula student, and especially autonomous racing. Through learning and innovating together, we aim to serve the scientific and student community.
History
The Academic Motorsports Club Zurich (AMZ) was founded in 2006 by students of ETH Zurich and has produced a prototype to compete in various «Formula Student» competitions in Europe every year since then. After having built three combustion powered cars, AMZ moved forward to developing fully electric racing cars in 2010. With the introduction of the Formula Student Driverless class in 2017, AMZ became a pioneer in developing autonomous race cars. Since then, AMZ engineers a new electric race car every season. On top of that, they build a driverless vehicle on the basis of a vehicle from previous years. The association offers students the opportunity to put their acquired theoretical knowledge into practice in a highly complex engineering environment. During this process they gather experience in the fields of leadership, innovation and quality management, cost analysis, project and product documentation as well as risk control. The association is financially independent and supported by numerous financial, manufacturing and parts sponsors as well as institutes of various Swiss universities. AMZ is the first Swiss team in Formula Student.
Organization
AMZ offers an active or passive membership. Active members design the race car for the upcoming Formula Student season, whereas the passive members mostly consist of so-called «veterans». Veterans are students that have participated in Formula Student for at least one year. They assist the core team with their knowledge and their experience. The association is listed in the commercial register of canton Zurich (CHE-114.814.216). Its executive board consists of president Ilija Teofilovic, vice president Shichao Zhang, accountant Federico Lo Curto and observer Dario Messerli.
Infrastructure
Besides the office located in the CLA building of ETH Zurich, AMZ also operates from a workshop at the Innovationspark Dübendorf. Both locations are available courtesy of ETH Zurich's Institute of Virtual Manufacturing.
