About the car
«julier» is AMZ's first race car that features four-wheel drive. Every wheel has its own electric motor mounted directly on the upright. Each motor is attached to a 1.5-stage planetary gearbox which is integrated in the upright and the wheel hub. The wheel hub motors are four self-designed and self-manufactured AMZ M3 motors, weighing only 4.6 kg each. This leads to an outstanding power-to-weight ratio: Only 180 kg of vehicle mass are facing nearly 200 hp. Using Torque Vectoring the power can be distributed to all wheels individually, resulting in very good traction and enormous agility. The chassis of the car is based on a one-piece monocoque made out of CFRP (Prepreg). In order to gain enough space for the wheel hub motors, the suspension design features push rod geometry on the front and the rear axle. All wishbones are made out of CFRP as well and the single-piece CFRP rims weigh less than one kilogram. As the first electric race car ever «julier» was able to win a Formula Student competition where combustion cars compete in the same class. Moreover, «julier» won all four Engineering Design events and set a new record in the AMZ's history, winning 28 awards in just a single season.
