About the car
Named after the 4223m high mountain on the border to Italy, castor was set to reach new heights. Revitalized with a core-team of 35 students, the goal was clearly to make the previously developed designs more reliable and improve on every detail to perfection. It would however also not lack on performance - with the by now trademark hydraulic, mode-decoupled suspension as well as self-developed, 2.5kg and 43.5kW powerhouse electric motors. A cutting-edge, SLM printed wheelpackaging as well as a wind-tunnel validated aerodynamic package round off what AMZ's 16th car brings to the table. On the other hand, castor is also the second AMZ-car to drive both autonomously and with driver. Featuring a completely integrated perception pipeline with sensor fusion of camera and LiDAR system, as well as an Model Predictive Controller, we secure a state-of-the-art driverless pipeline. Quick-decoupling actuators, to change between dv and manual mode round off the package. The countless efforts were fruitful, with 20 trophies won, a dominant win in Switzerland and a second place at the most renowned formula student competition in Germany, castor is the most succesful AMZ car of the last 5 years.
