About the car
Named after Piz Bernina, the highest mountain in the Eastern Alps, AMZ's 15th car would face unique challenges. It is the first car of AMZ to incorporate the driverless systems in the standard, manual driven car, which enables it to switch between dv and manual operation during the same event. However, it doesn't stop at that, as it features further technical innovations: Equipped with a mode-decoupled hydraulic suspension, a fully self-developed drivetrain 4 wheelhub-motors, each weighing only 2.5kg for 43.5kW of power, topology optimized uprights and brake calipers as well as an aerodynamics-package based on the novel power-ground effect system, it is set to conquer the formula student world. With a small core-team of only 12 full-time hardware engineers, bernina however couldn't live up to its full potential, battling reliability problems due to lack of manpower. With 3 design wins however, at the biggest competitions in Austria and Germany, it convinces with its concepts and promises more to come in the following year.
