About the car
The Mythen, a striking massif in the heart of Switzerland, were chosen as the namesake for 13th car of AMZ. With a fundamental alteration of the packaging within the chassis and consistent lightweight design, MYTHEN has become the lightest car in AMZ’s history, weighing 162.5 kg. The suspension of MYTHEN is a unique concept. A sophisticated hydraulic system makes it possible to spring all four wheels with just three spring/damper elements, in order to achieve the optimum driving characteristics. This allows for an improved adjustment of the springs for the different modes of motion of the chassis. Two innovations were implemented in the drivetrain: The rotors of the motors are reinforced with CFRP sleeves. This allows the 9th generation of our self-developed motors to be even lighter and more efficient. With an output of 37kW at a weight of just over 2kg, they feature a tremendous power density. The second big innovation are the 2nd generation self-developed inverters, which control our motors. One dual inverter per axle was realized and the total weight of the inverters cut in half at the same time. For the first time, the communication between the motors and the inverters was realized by the means of optical fibers in order to avoid electromagnetic interference. The vehicle dynamics control, which calculates the optimum torque for all four motors at any time, runs in MYTHEN on new and more powerful hardware. In addition, the inverters enable high-frequency traction control, so that mythen makes optimal use of the available grip. Due to technical issues, MYTHEN could not test enough during the season to be able to exploit its full potential. The performance that MYTHEN was able to show despite the limited power output however proves the potential that lies in its concepts.
