Named after the striking Roccia Nera in the Pennine Alps, nera, AMZ's 19th vehicle, consistently evolved the design DNA of its predecessor. A newly designed carbon monocoque with a low-slung rear structure and a weight of just 22.5 kg laid the foundation for the optimized overall package. Combined with an efficient carbon aerodynamics package, the race car produced enough downforce to theoretically drive on the ceiling at speeds as low as 80 km/h. The car was powered by the 15th generation of self-developed electric motors, featuring an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 18.2 kW/kg. Driven through a two-stage coupled planetary gearbox housed within topology-optimized, 3D-printed uprights, the powertrain catapulted nera from 0 to 100 km/h in just 1.9 seconds. Energy was supplied by a highly modular 6.86 kWh battery pack. Due to rule changes, nera shifted to a purely mechanical suspension: by decoupling heave and roll, the system ensured maximum platform stability while saving 30% in weight. nera also set new standards in driverless operation: an autonomous system equipped with a Hesai ATX LiDAR, Graph-SLAM, and Model Predictive Control (MPC) guided the vehicle with pinpoint accuracy around the track. The vehicle model was validated using a new full-car simulator. nera capped off an outstanding season: in addition to stunning overall victories at Formula Student Austria and Formula Student Germany, the team also claimed first place in the Driverless categories at Formula Student Switzerland and Formula Student Czech.
